employer advice

Today’s employer advice is from Ila Gillenwater, Business Development, at CED Greentech.

Q: Tell us about your organization.

CED Greentech is the largest solar equipment distributor in the country. CED has 70 warehouses across the US filled with solar equipment. Each warehouse has experts on solar equipment, providing guidance and support for solar developers, EPCs, solar sales organizations and solar installers.  Locations are furnished with a fleet of their own trucks and trained drivers to make job site delivery easy.

Q: What advice would you give to people in midlife who want to transition to a green job?

Talk to people already in the industry and ask about their typical day, ask about the pros and cons of the work they do and ask about the opportunities available. Networking is the single best way to find a job. Get involved on LinkedIn.

Q: What are the skills that you believe will be required most in the short-medium term in your industry?

Good work ethic, willingness to learn. The industry is hungry for good people. Put Solar in your LinkedIn header. It would be good to do some research and learn about how solar works and learn the basic components.
