The role for investors in decarbonizing global shipping: free webinar, December 13

A useful learning and networking opportunity for anyone interested in climate finance: The role for investors in decarbonizing global shipping free webinar on December 13.

Maritime shipping occupies a central position in the global supply chain: nearly 100,000 commercial vessels move 11 billion tons of goods each year, accounting for about 80% of global trade volume. The associated greenhouse gas emissions add up, and shipping accounts for about 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

For investors with net zero targets, addressing shipping-related emissions will be necessary to reach them. Emissions from the sector could increase 40% by 2050 – a trajectory incompatible with pathways that limit global warming to the Paris Agreement targets.

A new report by Environmental Defense Fund and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping looks at how investor engagement can accelerate progress to reach zero emissions by 2050 through efficiency and by speeding the adoption of zero carbon fuels.

In this webinar, we will discuss progress on shipping decarbonization to date and how investors can assess and accelerate company performance on emissions.
