A useful learning and networking opportunity for anyone interested in food: The Accelerating scientific progress on sustainable proteins free webinar on June 7.
A free, virtual, interdisciplinary Forum on Sustainability, presented by Cell Press and the Good Food Institute Europe
As we pursue a more sustainable future, alternative proteins have the potential to play an important role in reimagining our food systems. Global meat consumption is the highest it’s ever been, and the UN projects that global meat demand will double by 2050. Accelerating scientific progress on sustainable proteins to advance plant-based, cultivated, and fermentation-made foods therefore offers key opportunities to satisfy this demand with just a fraction of the environmental impact of conventional meat. However, this research and innovation is largely being driven by the commercial sector: establishing an active scientific community in this field alongside an already competitive industry can facilitate open and effective knowledge sharing and help to overcome key bottlenecks.
Join Cell Press and GFI Europe for a free, virtual discussion on what it will take to realise the full potential of sustainable proteins and the opportunities they present. Featuring a panel of experts in cell biology, alternative proteins science, the social sciences, sustainability, public health, and research funding, we’ll explore technical and infrastructure bottlenecks, future talent needs, opportunities within policy frameworks and the commercial sector, and perspectives needed to ensure the environmental and societal benefits are maximized, all from a global perspective.
This 90-minute event will feature a keynote, panel discussion, and audience Q&A. It will be followed by a separate 30 minute networking event with themed breakout groups.
